Or maybe use one of the hosts Wordpress suggests for Wordpress? Well… why don’t you just move your site to wordpress whole-sale?

That makes all the difference. You were using wp-cache and they still couldn’t handle the load? That’s a sign that there’s a problem on their side, and that it has nothing to do with your site. That their first act was to pull the plug is just stupid.
